The Real-World Factors Reducing Door Headroom

While a door frame may measure 203.2 cm on paper, several real-world factors eat into that clearance margin:
First, footwear adds anywhere from 2 cm (light dress shoes) to 4.5 cm (running shoes or work boots). Second, hardwood overlays or thick carpet underlayment installed over existing subfloors frequently shave 1.5 to 2.5 cm off the finished opening height.
For someone standing 6 feet 2 inches (188 cm) wearing heavy boots, actual headroom can shrink to just 10 centimeters.
